The Best Philly Films of All Time

No doubt Philadelphia has served as the backdrop for more movies than many other cities but if you haven’t caught these classics on your direct TV you better start looking, particularly if you’re planning a trip in soon.
High School – Released in 1958 this documentary about an inner-city school was once so abhorred in Philly there was a law that said its name could not be spoken within 50 miles of the town. Now that the wounds have healed it remains a classic look inside the crumbling Philadelphia education system.
Witness – Harrison Ford’s first big thriller has a few scenes set in Philly but they are the most powerful of the film. How exciting can an Amish movie be? Apparently, very much so.
Sixth Sense – Philly’s rich history plays a character in its own right in this Bruce Willis classic. It’s creepy and still remains so today and it was Haley Joel Osment’s big break at that.
Rocky – Who could resist? The best boxing film of all time is also Sly Stalone’s best and hey, while it’s at it, it’s Philadelphia’s best too.
